If you crave the noise, arts, culture and city hustle for your wedding day, Toronto is a perfect choice. Extremely travel accessible from the major cities in Canada and the USA, you can have your Toronto wedding large or small, urban or uptown. The choices are truly endless in the Six.
The best time to go: June, July, August, and September are the most popular months to get hitched in Toronto. These months bring fresh summery weather, but they can also be the priciest time of year when it comes to venues. If you want to avoid the increased costs of venues and accommodations, get married in the early spring, late fall, or have a winter wonderland wedding in the midst of the colder season. Try to avoid New Year’s Day holiday weekend in January if you want to be cost-conscious.
The flight: All major carriers offer daily service to Toronto. If you are traveling from the west, you may have a connecting flight. Travel time from Montreal to Toronto is just one hour.
Legal paperwork: In order to marry in Toronto, you must obtain a marriage license. The fee for a Licence is $125.00, Canadian funds.
You need to be at least 16 years old to get married in Ontario.
Under 18 years old: you will need written consent from both your parents. You can get consent forms where you get a marriage licence.
Types of marriage - To ensure that your marriage is performed properly and legally, an authorized official needs to marry you. There are 2 types of marriage ceremonies performed in Ontario:
Religious marriage: a recognized religious official marries you. Check the religious marriage officiants list to ensure that the officiant you are interested in hiring is authorized to perform a marriage in Ontario.
Religious marriage officiants - Civil marriage: a judge, justice of the peace or authorized municipal clerk marries you, often at a local municipal office or city hall.
The budget: Depending on the scope and size of wedding you choose, and the venue, your budget can run the gamut from a $15,000 to $150,000+! If you are planning a celebration at one of Toronto’s Best hotels expect to pay more for their total wedding packages, which typically include everything from the flowers, to the photographer, videographers, catering, and entertainment.
Before you get married, you need either:
*a marriage licence, or
*a banns form that you get from a church when you publicly announce your commitment to a divine service (a church publishes this declaration, called “the publication of banns”)
Banns cannot be published if you or your spouse has been married before. You will need to get a marriage licence.
You and your spouse, witnesses and the person who performed the marriage will need to sign the licence or banns immediately after the ceremony.
Wedding venues: For a gorgeous wedding in an intimate and exclusive space we recommend Graydon Hall. The manor's sprawling gardens could play host to your ceremony, while the estate itself is perfect for an evening affair. The home features ornate moldings, bay windows, and wood-burning fireplaces. Rental fees vary depending on the time, date and season requested.
The Palais Royale is another great venue. This beautiful venue features a plush interior with contemporary art deco furnishings, an original stone fireplace, hardwood dance floor and a 30-foot vaulted ceiling. The ballroom can host 350 people for a seated dinner or up to 800 for cocktails.
